Headline

The monitor panel is now a full monitor manager. Omarchy's monitor panel has been rebuilt to show one display at a time, each with its own brightness, scale and resolution rows, and a layout map at the bottom that draws your screens where they sit. Drag a display against another's edge to move it, or use h and l. Choices are no longer written into monitors.lua as connector rules — they're saved per physical monitor — and Setup > Monitors is gone from the menu because the panel covers it.

Connector-keyed rules were fragile: a dock renames its ports between plugs, so a rule written for DP-1 could hand one monitor's mode and position to whatever plugged in next. Your hand-edited monitors.lua also stops being rewritten in place, so a bad write can no longer leave Hyprland's whole config unloadable. Saved settings live in ~/.local/state/omarchy/monitors/settings, keyed by each monitor's make, model and serial. GitHub (omacom/omarchy)

Releases & Changes

  • Sudo — A single password now covers ten minutes in a terminal instead of a prompt at every privileged step, and the update, refresh and channel scripts are plain Bash again — edge channel only, not in 4.0.5 or 4.0.6.

  • Ghostty 1.4 — The terminal's biggest update in months — released October 27, 2026 — brings complete Kitty graphics support, scrollback compression and ten security advisories worth reading.

  • Hibernate row — The menu entry disappears on machines whose kernel refuses hibernation, instead of letting you click into a silent failure that left the machine awake.

  • Refresh rates — Each display's available rates now appear beneath its resolution in the new monitor panel.

  • Monitors migration — Existing hypr/monitors.lua files move onto the new panel-based settings through an upgrade script, which leaves a time-stamped backup of the original in place.

Features & Workflow

  • omarchy-hyprland-monitor-rotate — A new command turns a display in quarter turns and saves the rotation per monitor; right-click a display in the layout map to pick one.

  • UWSM recovery docs — The manual now explains reviving a desktop that won't start because an env.d file is broken, and UWSM 0.27.0 upstream now skips *.bak and syntax-broken files on its own.

Themes & Ricing

  • Jade Horse — The new bundled theme replacing Osaka Jade, carrying three upscaled Year of the Horse wallpapers, a wordmark recolored onto the same pixel grid as every other theme, and unlock images repainted in the new palette. If Osaka Jade was your daily look, this is its successor in the defaults — but nothing is forced: the planned migration was dropped, so an existing setup keeps its theme untouched. The wordmark keeps the same glyph pixels as the shared one, so it scales like every other theme. GitHub (omacom/omarchy)

DHH & Direction

  • HANCORE — The Omacom Foundation has hired HANCORE as Head of Design and Community, its fourth staff member alongside the kernel, shell and infrastructure leads. The plugin marketplace he started has grown into the official Omarchy catalogue, now holding six thousand plugins, and his themes Solitude and Last Horizon already ship with the desktop. The project's aesthetic and plugin ecosystem now have a dedicated, paid pair of hands — with merchandise and apparel explicitly on his roadmap. His move opens a seat in the AIR residency, which stays by invitation. He also remains on Omarchy Core. omarchy.org

“He’s a mechanical engineer who became one of the defining aesthetic forces in this community”

Ecosystem

  • Hyprland 0.57 — Workspace sharing, blur variants, window wobble and new Lua APIs land — and .conf configs are finally dead.

  • Hyprland 0.57 in VMs — A new default dmabuf quirk blacks out the desktop on virtio-gpu VMs, leaving only the bar's widgets; setting skip_non_kms_dmabuf_formats = false in hyprland.lua, then reloading, fixes it.

  • rtkit realtime — Omarchy holds Hyprland off rtkit realtime scheduling until upstream's RT watchdog stops killing it.

  • Symlinked configs — Open issue: omarchy-display-text-size and friends rewrite symlinked configs as plain copies, cutting the link to your dotfiles repo; a shared-helper fix is proposed but not merged.

Community & Discourse

  • Daemonarchy — FreeBSD co-founder Jordan Hubbard has ported Omarchy's installer and desktop onto FreeBSD 16.0-CURRENT, with OpenAI's GPT assembling a first pass in under two hours. Installs land on ZFS with rollback support and need at least 40 GB; v1.3.1 is the current ISO. It's the clearest sign yet that Omarchy's setup and look have become a template other systems copy — the same Hyprland-and-Wayland desktop, just with FreeBSD underneath. Hubbard says the idea came from people asking why it didn't already exist. It's FOSS

Worth Trying

Try the new monitor panel's layout map and rotation menu. Open the monitor panel and find the layout map at the bottom — it now shows even with a single display. Drag one screen against another's edge to move it, or press h and l to shuffle the focused display around. Right-click a display to rotate it through Normal, 90°, 180° and 270°. And if you manage monitors yourself, drop omarchy_monitor_panel_settings = false into hypr/monitors.lua and the panel will leave your file alone. GitHub (omacom/omarchy)
