Headline
Omarchy 4.5.0-rc1 — The first big feature drop since Quattro went public on Oct 20, published by ryanrhughes. The desktop now speaks 50 languages, each monitor keeps its own set of workspaces, workspaces can float with a dock, notifications were rebuilt from the Omapager plugin into stacking cards with actions and history, and video wallpapers plus a broad performance pass round it out.
Everything landing on edge this week — keyboard-driven notifications, action buttons, the slimmed-down bell — is polish on this release. This is your map of what stable gets next. Switch over via Update > Channel > RC, then Update > Omarchy. ISOs exist for x86_64 and aarch64, and setup now covers Snapdragon and NVIDIA N1x laptops. GitHub
“⚠️ This is a release candidate, not a final release. Expect bugs, rough edges, and the occasional thing that breaks outright.”
Releases & Changes
Omarchy 4.0.6 — A patch out Oct 19 that clears updates stuck on the 4.0.5 OpenClaw move and mends screens that sometimes skipped locking before suspend. It also fixes a boot passphrase prompt that assumed a Latin keyboard layout and TUXEDO laptop drivers that failed to build against the Omarchy kernel; a self-installed npm OpenClaw needs the finishing commands in the release notes.
OpenClaw migration — A commit retiring the update-blocking migration landed and was rolled back the same day — the durable fix is the one inside 4.0.6. Retired in #15809, reverted in #15854 hours later.
China mirrors — Installs done in China pull packages from Omarchy's own cn mirrors, picked automatically from the timezone you chose at setup. Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan stay on the global mirrors; existing installs are untouched unless you opt in.
Features & Workflow
Notification keyboard control — On edge, Super+Ctrl+Comma grabs the newest card; digits press its buttons, Enter clicks, arrows walk the stack, Delete dismisses, Escape lets go. Keys return on their own after ten seconds of stillness, and silencing a source moved to Super+Ctrl+Alt+Comma.
omarchy-notification-send --action — Scripts can attach up to three buttons to a notification, --with carries the data they act on, and the first also fires on a card click. Buttons draw as a hairline bar along the card's bottom edge, mirrored correctly in right-to-left languages.
Notification panel — The right-click bell panel and its preferences are gone; the bell is a plain Do Not Disturb switch now, and history lasts a day. Verification codes still slip past Do Not Disturb, and Super+Shift+Alt+, replays recent cards, held back or not.
Notification snooze — Snoozing per source or globally is gone, along with the screen-sharing smarts that suggested it; right-clicking a card now just dismisses it.
Super+Ctrl+T and W — Theme and background switchers get their own Super+Ctrl chords, Network takes N, and nightlight keeps only a menu toggle. Your existing Space-based theme and background chords keep working; the manual and keybinding catalogs are updated.
omarchy-setup-git — Git setup leaves the installer; first login shows a Setup Git notification that fills user.name and user.email, Compose shortcuts, and offers GitHub sign-in. --name and --email flags set the identity headlessly for unattended installs, and gh only installs after you agree to sign in.
Agents panel — Every coding agent and provider now shows up in the agents panel and the Default Agent menu, with official marks and hardened usage collectors. Installing an npm-backed default agent brings node along, and the collectors now survive hostile replies like deeply nested JSON.
Themes & Ricing
Ethereal theme — It's a small one, but the merge is a reminder that wallpapers ride in as ordinary pull requests — if you have a favourite shot, the repo takes it. Find the new option in the background picker, which just grew its own chord: Super+Ctrl+W on edge. GitHub
Ecosystem
Arch PHP advisory — Two CVEs permit remote code execution in PHP below 8.5.12 and legacy PHP below 8.3.36; upgrade any publicly exposed PHP app now.
ca-certificates-mozilla — Compromised eMudhra intermediate certificates were invalidated in version 3.131.1-1; without the new bundle your TLS traffic can be intercepted.
Community & Discourse
Linux 7.3 — A record-setting kernel release, and the thread is enjoying it — 18,765 non-merge commits from 3,021 developers, 807 of them first-timers. The pieces that eventually matter to Omarchy: ksmbd can now serve Apple Time Machine backups to macOS, Apple silicon device-tree work reaches the M3 Pro, Max and Ultra, and the first driver for the new Wi-Fi HaLow band landed. One commenter counts kernel CVE fixes at an all-time high; another reports /dev/input events disappearing since the last rc. Omarchy ships its own kernel, so these upstream features show up whenever it rebases. Hacker News
Worth Trying
Preview 4.5 on a machine you can break. Point a spare or snapshot-backed machine at the RC: Update > Channel > RC, then Update > Omarchy. You get per-monitor workspaces, the rebuilt notifications, the dock on floating workspaces, and the faster boot and theme switching. Keep the daily driver on stable until 4.5 final — the notes are blunt about running it somewhere you can roll back, so make sure your snapshot routine actually works before you switch. GitHub
